Leszan, provider of transport for the elderly and those with disabilities, has defied the recession by expanding its fleet of vehicles in order to meet a growing demand for its services.

Having recently taken delivery of four new vehicles, and with another on the way, Leszan has invested in a total of 15 new vehicles in the last 12 months.  The latest vehicle is currently being customised to Leszan’s unique specification, to allow for ease of wheelchair access.

Peter Simpson, Leszan’s founder and managing director, has a great deal of experience in transport, having run his own taxi business and self-drive vehicle hire company before forming Leszan ten years ago.  In fact, it was his experience in running a taxi business, and feeling that disabled passengers were not adequately catered for by the majority of transport companies, that first inspired Peter to develop the business model for Leszan.

Built on the principals that wheelchair users and those with other special needs should always be able to travel safely, in comfort and with dignity, Leszan drivers are put through a thorough training programme which includes advanced driver training, customer service training with particular attention to the care of the elderly, infirm and those with specified special needs, and instruction in the correct loading and securing of all types of wheelchair.

Peter said: “It’s important that we invest in our vehicles to ensure we continue to meet the needs of our ever-growing customer base.

“We provide transport solutions for a wide variety of organisations, including councils, nursing homes, hospitals, hospices and special schools.  Each of them has specific needs and requirements which we strive to meet, delivering our passengers in comfort, in safety and with dignity.

“All of our drivers are specially trained, not only in advanced driving, but also to ensure they’re equipped to provide a high level of customer care and support.  We select our drivers not just on their driving and previous experience, but also on their personal suitability for the job; how well they interact with passengers.  I believe that’s what makes us stand out and what has seen such impressive company growth in recent years.  For us, the passengers are the most important thing.”
